Magazine History

Everything has it's beginning. As we all knowphones haven't been here forever. How did ancient people utilize their times besides books and newspaper? Who came up with the word "magazine"? How did magazines all begin? 

Magazines have existed since the 17th century. The first magazine was established in Germany 1663. Johann Rist created "Edifying Monthly Discussions" also known as one of the examples of modern magazine. This periodical was made for literary philosophy purposes. During the 1700s, there was an increase in literacy and intellectual skill. There were three essays periodicals that led to the modern magazine: Daniel Defoe's "The Review", Sir Richard Steele's "The Tatler", and Addison and Steele's "The Spector." 

In the 1700s, Edward Cover published the magazine called "The Gentlemen's Magazine" in London 1731. Edward Cove invented the word "magazine." It was took from Arabic word, makhazin which mean storehouse. This magazine was considered to cover and be known as the general interest magazine. Later in 1842, Herbert Ingram a Britain Newsagent created the first illustrate the magazine. 

Magazines began to grow in the 1800s. Magazines began to cover many personal interests such as the news, politics, poems, and more. By the 18th century, magazines where getting published all over the United States. Magazines began not only to focus in logical information but focused on entertainment. Beginning of the 20th century, magazine began to get published constantly throughout the year and magazines companies began to grow.

Preliminary Feature Writing Practice (Lead)

Feature Story Lead  A 59-year old Thomas J. Serle former acrobat,  is a circus laborer for the circus Parker Bros. Sterle lives in Fort Lauderdale and helps take care of the circus animals such as the elephants. Still-Life photography - Laura Letinsky

For my magazine, I decided to research different photographers  that may inspire me for my magazine cover by their methods and focuses.   Laura Letinsky  Laura Letinsky is a Canaian photographer born 1962 in Winnipeg , Canada. She is known for her still life art. She began her career with taking photos of people but late 1900s, she replaced people  with objects. She uses objects such as fruit bowls to present their beauty.
