Cover Page Analysis

Magazines consisted of many conventions.  Here are magazines conventions that are commonly found: 

Cover page: Cover page contains components that will have visual style and an attractive layout and design. It gives the tone, "mood" of the magazine. 

  • Masthead:It attracts readers/audience instantly and it's easily recognisable. They tie with the target audience as well.  They are commonly found in huge bold letters. (Ex: TIME) 

  • Tagline: This is found many times thought-out the cover page of the magazine. It can be one word used to attract readers to pick up. This also presents what the magazine is about. 

  • Cover lines: Summarizes what magazine includes. It provides the reader with an idea of the magazine. It can be an interesting quote or names. 

  • Central image/model: This is the cover graphic. It relates  to what the magazine is aiming for. It is used to attract the audience before reading the magazine. 

  • Color scheme: Is provided to attract the audience eye. It targets the audience's interest with colors.

  • Barcode: Visible on the cover,  however may not where the reader may not get distracted by it. It can be founded on the back or front cover page. 

  • Edition (sometimes). It is noticeable but does not distract the reader from the cover image / model.  It provided the reader with information on where the magazine was published and its monthly editions. 

Content Page: 

  • Content page is the first page that will include a summary of the magazine. It presents detail on what exactly the magazine might consist of. 

  • Headings: Is a signature of the magazine and is similar to what the features displays. 

  • Subheadings: It correlates with the theme, but it is smaller so people may ensure it as the subheading. In most magazines, they are located under the heading. 

  • Color scheme: Mostly or black and is consistent throughout the pages. 

  • Article:  It is usually small and isn't designed to attract the audience's attention compared to other conventions such as the heading and masthead. 

  • Genre: It is what the magazine is about. It is based on information  such as sports or music.
